Zotero – Bibliographical reference management software. Requires Firefox. Most useful when the Microsoft Word add-in is installed.
Freemind – Mindmapping software.
R – Statistical computing software.
OpenOffice – A collection of productivity software for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and more.
FreeFileSync – File backup software.
Keepass – Password management software.
BookBuddy – An iPhone app for keeping track of books lent out from your library.
Virtual Private Network (VPN) – Specific to your institution for whom you work. Allows you to work from home to access academic journals as though you are on the on-campus network. Ask your technical support staff for details.
Keynote – the powerpoint program and iOS app from Apple. Reads .pptx files so you can present on the move.

For Corpus Linguistics
AntConc – Corpus analysis software. Includes wordlist, concordancing, ngram, collocation and keyness tools.
Range – Software for the analysis of word frequencies across multiple files. Output may be transferred to a spreadsheet. Scroll down to the “Resources” section to download.
Perl – A programming language and software that is especially useful for linguistics.
